Short story: The elephant's nose.

One day, baby elephant wondered why giraffes had such long necks. He asked mother elephant why giraffes had such long necks, but his mother did not know the answer.
So he went to ask the owl why giraffes had such long necks, but the giraffe did not know the answer.
Then he went to ask the lion why giraffes had such long necks, but the lion did not know the answer.
Baby elephant went to the river to drink some water. Then he saw the crocodile in the river. He asked the crocodile why giraffes had such long necks. The crocodile told the baby elephant to come closer, so that he could whisper the answer into his ear. The baby elephant stepped closer to the crocodile, but then the crocodile opened his mouth and snapped his jaws over the baby elephant's nose. The baby elephant cried and cried for help, but the crocodile did not let go of his nose. Finally, mother elephant came and kicked the crocodile. The crocodile let go, and baby elephant was okay. But his nose had been pulled quite long by the crocodile.

And that is why the elephant now has a long nose.
